Should all electrical devices be tested and tagged?

In Queensland, the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 mandates for the testing and tagging of all electrical portable devices (EPODs), extension cords, and electrical equipment with a current rating of not more than 20 amps.

They must be tested and tagged at regular periods based on the type of work they are used for.

Intervals for testing and tagging different types of electrical equipment

While AS/NZS 3760 has established some requirements for test and tagging procedures in Brisbane and SE QLD, the provisions stated in the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 shall take precedence.   • Specified equipment not double insulated – 6 months
  • Double insulated specified equipment – 12 months
  • Unspecified devices and rides – After each onsite assembly, and every 6 months
  • NOTE: A device or ride supplied by a plug with a current rating of not more than 20 amps must also be connected to a type 1 safety switch or type 2 safety switch.
• Service work(if no safety switch)  – 12 months
• Rural work (equipment used under stated risk factors and no safety switch) – 12 months
• Office Work – 5 years
